'The Lord of the Rings' will have a new movie with Gollum as the main character.
Andy Serkis will direct and star in The Hunt for Gollum, which will premiere in 2027 with Peter Jackson's production
Andy Serkis has confirmed that he will reprise his role as Gollum and will also direct the upcoming film of The Lord of the Rings.
The new project, produced by Peter Jackson and Warner, already has confirmed filming and a release date for December 2027.

What is The Hunt for Gollum about?
The film will be titled "The Hunt for Gollum" and will take place between the events of The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring. The story promises to explore Sméagol's evolution and his definitive transformation into Gollum.
This will be the first time the character will have a film focused exclusively on his story, opening a new chapter for J.R.R. Tolkien's universe in cinema.
Andy Serkis returns as Gollum... and as director
Serkis will step into the character's shoes again after more than a decade. His last appearance was in 2012, with a brief cameo in An Unexpected Journey.

This time, in addition to acting, he will also be behind the camera. "I'm excited to work again with my people in New Zealand and create something true to the spirit of the trilogy," he said.
Confirmed filming and release dates
Filming for The Hunt for Gollum will begin in early or mid-2026, according to Serkis himself. The worldwide release is scheduled for December 2027.

What is known about the cast?
The script is still a mystery, but there is speculation that Aragorn and Gandalf could have important roles. This part of the story is already mentioned in the Appendices and in passages from The Fellowship of the Ring.
The participation of actors from the original cast is not ruled out, although with 25 years since the first film, that presents obvious challenges. Still, Warner aims to recapture the tone and aesthetic of the classic trilogy.
