La Matanza: Criminals fired at a police operation investigating another murder

A new episode of extreme violence was recorded in Ciudad Evita, where a 28-year-old man was shot dead and, shortly after, criminals traveling in a vehicle opened fire amid the operation of the Buenos Aires Police deployed in the area to investigate the homicide.

The incident occurred in the midst of an unprecedented security crisis in the province of Buenos Aires, a result of the disastrous management of the ultra Kirchnerist Axel Kicillof.

The initial incident took place on Wednesday night at the intersection of Las Margaritas and Las Magnolias, near the 22 de Enero neighborhood. Officers from the 3rd Central Police Station arrived at the scene after receiving an alert to 911 about a homicide and found the victim, identified as Nicolás, lying on the street.

The young man, who was registered as living in Laferrere, had multiple gunshot wounds and numerous spent casings were found at the scene. According to his family, who spoke to investigators, the victim had issues related to drug use.

The situation escalated even further when the police remaining at the scene requested reinforcements by radio due to the possibility of incidents with neighbors.

It was then that a truck, possibly a Renault Sandero, appeared in the area, driving down Las Azucenas street. Reports indicate that from this vehicle a group of criminals opened fire amid the police operation and subsequently fled.

The available information suggests that the shots were directed at the officers. However, other accounts also claim that the criminals did not fire directly at the police.

Meanwhile, the truck linked to the incident was found burned that same night in the area, adding another element to the puzzling episode that occurred while the investigation into the murder was underway.

In the meantime, the Scientific Police counted 24 spent casings at the scene. Several of them were found arranged in a straight line, a characteristic compatible with the use of a machine gun.

During this month, La Matanza recorded eight homicides in seven days, while Nicolás's murder once again exposed the violence and insecurity on the streets of the Kirchnerist district.

Now, the investigation seeks to determine who was responsible for the homicide and the subsequent attack that occurred during the operation, as well as to establish what weapon was used and the exact sequence of the shots.
