Maxi Moralez destroyed Gago: 'He had his own little group; the rest had to survive.'

The former Racing midfielder, currently in MLS, criticized Gago's tenure and spoke about internal tensions in the locker room

A footballer with a recent past at Racing broke his silence and made harsh statements about Fernando Gago's tenure as coach. This is Maxi Moralez, who currently plays in MLS and spoke with TNT Sports about his most recent spell at the Avellaneda club.

"Gago had his little group who played more and were doing well, and the rest had to survive," said the midfielder who came up through the Academia youth system, referring to the unequal treatment that, according to him, was experienced inside the locker room.

Meanwhile, the forward also emphasized that the relationship with Pintita deteriorated as the matches went by: "The relationship was fine before and then a day would go by without him greeting you... That kept happening." "It was more of a team-level thing and that's it," added the current New York City Football Club player.

Moralez returned to Racing in 2023 after several years abroad. His return caused expectations, but he was never able to establish himself as a key piece. Injuries, lack of continuity, and a project that gradually wore down ultimately defined his short second spell at the club.

The words of the former national team player reflect a tense and fragmented atmosphere during Gago's final days as head coach, a period that ended that same year after a string of poor results and a locker room that, as can be inferred, was no longer responding in a unified way.

Moralez's numbers at Racing

"Frasquito" played a total of 113 official matches for Racing, scoring 17 goals and providing 3 assists. His first spell at the club was between 2004 and 2009, where he showcased much of his talent. In 2023, he returned for a shorter second stint, in which he played 23 matches, scored one goal and provided three assists.

Additionally, he won the 2023 Supercopa Internacional after defeating Boca in Abu Dhabi, where he directly contributed with an assist in the final.
