Melania Trump spoke with Putin and managed to reunite eight Ukrainian children displaced by the war with their families.

The First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump, revealed this Friday that she has frequently contacted Russian President Vladimir Putin to reunite Ukrainian children displaced by the war in Ukraine. Her efforts have so far reunited eight Ukrainian children with their families.

"President Putin and I have maintained an open channel of communication regarding the well-being of these children," the First Lady explained. Putin replied to Melania's request in August and voluntarily agreed to engage with her. "Over the past few months, both parties have participated in several meetings and calls, all in good faith," the White House specified. 

"Each child has lived in anguish due to the war in Ukraine," Melania stated. "Three were separated from their parents and displaced to the Russian Federation due to the fighting on the front lines. The other five were separated from relatives across borders because of the conflict, including a girl who has now been reunited, from Ukraine to Russia."

 

Melania's letter that "moved" Putin

As the conflict has dragged on, some of the children displaced by the war have turned 18 years old and now live in Russia as adults. Melania indicated that she wants to help these young people, although their situations require "more coordinated assistance" that the Kremlin has already agreed to.  

During the historic summit between Putin and Trump in Alaska held in August of last month, Melania handed a letter to her husband for him to personally give to his Russian counterpart. In that letter, the First Lady pleaded with the Kremlin leader to protect the innocence of children around the world, telling him that by doing so he would serve Russia and humanity itself. 

The emotional appeal was effective and both parties began coordinating the return of these displaced individuals. "A child's soul knows no borders or flags," the Republican's wife stated today during a press conference with journalists. "We must foster (...) a world where dreams are realized instead of fading away because of war."

The words from the First Lady that reached Putin are as follows: "Each child shares the same silent dreams in their heart, whether they were born by chance in the rustic countryside of a nation or in a magnificent urban center. They dream of love, possibilities, and safety from harm. As parents, it is our duty to nurture the hope of the next generation."
