Milei entrusted Santilli with the mission of building consensus for the second stage of the government
President Javier Milei officially announced this Sunday the appointment of Diego "Colo" Santilli as new Minister of the Interior of the Nation, announcing it on his X (formerly Twitter) account. In his message, he emphasized that he will be responsible for leading the dialogue with governors and legislators to build the necessary consensus for thestructural reforms promoted by the Government.
The appointment comes just a few days after Santilli, candidate of La Libertad Avanza in Buenos Aires Province, achieved a historic comeback by overturning a 14-point deficit and establishing the ruling party as the leading force in the country's most populous district.
Former Deputy Mayor of Buenos Aires and a leader with a long career in PRO, Santilli joined the liberal movement and quickly established himself as one of the most experienced political figures in the Milei project, contributing management skills, territorial knowledge, and political coordination capacity.

An ally for the new stage of the Government
In his new role, Santilli will be responsible for building bridges with governors and Congress, a key task in the second stage of the Government, focused on the approval of structural reforms—labor, tax, and criminal—driven from Casa Rosada. The President trusts his ability to engage in dialogue and his technical profile, elements that are essential to strengthen governability and consolidate the paradigm shift initiated in December 2023.
The move takes place amid changes in the Cabinet leadership, following the departure of Guillermo Francos and the appointment of Manuel Adorni as the new Chief of Ministers. The decision was celebrated within La Libertad Avanza, which sees the change as a gesture of strength and renewal, while also expressing gratitude to Francos for his time in the administration and his major achievements, crystallized in the ratification of the May Pact.

From the Buenos Aires comeback to the Ministry of the Interior
Santilli joins the cabinet with the backing of a victory that reshaped the Argentine political landscape. His victory in Buenos Aires with 41.5% (against 40.7% for Peronist Jorge Taiana) marked one of the worst results for Peronism in four decades and consolidated Milei's position after the legislative elections.
Colo managed to capitalize on public fatigue with old politics, supported by higher voter turnout and the dispersion of the Peronist vote in an election that is still under analysis, which ultimately tipped the balance in favor of La Libertad Avanza.
With his incorporation into the cabinet, Diego Santilli is consolidating himself as a key ally of Javier Milei in building political consensus. His experience and recent victory in Buenos Aires position him as a central figure to sustain governability and advance the Government's reforms.
