President Javier Milei once again displayed his strategic alignment with the United States during the "Freedom 250" event, organized by the American Embassy in celebration of the 250th anniversary of American Independence.
The president participated in the event accompanied by the Secretary General of the Presidency, Karina Milei, on a day marked by the praises of Ambassador Peter Lamelas, who highlighted the personal and political bond between Milei and Donald Trump, as well as the historic moment that the bilateral relationship is experiencing.

“President Milei, my dear friend, my great friend, thank you for being here with us tonight,” the ambassador stated affectionately during his speech, asserting that the presence of the Argentine head of state “honors the United States” and reflects “the strength of friendship” between the two countries.
“Tonight is not simply a celebration. Tonight is a key moment, a unique moment,” he noted. In that vein, he emphasized that the anniversary of American independence serves as a starting point to build “a stronger, deeper, and bolder relationship between the United States and Argentina.”
Lamelas also linked the foundational history of the United States with Milei's leadership. Remembering the men who signed the American independence, he stated that they had “courage,” adding: “Courage like President Milei, like the lion.” The phrase was a clear political signal towards the Argentine Government, which has been deepening its international agenda alongside Washington.

The ambassador, of Cuban origin, also dedicated part of his speech to recount the history of his family, who escaped communism in Cuba to seek freedom in the United States. That segment allowed him to advocate for the American dream, individual freedom, and the possibility of building one's own destiny away from the socialist regimes that have ruined much of Latin America.
In that context, Lamelas was emphatic about the mission he received as Trump's envoy. “President Donald Trump sent me here to the Republic of Argentina with a clear mission: to advance the relationship between the United States and Argentina,” he stated. He also mentioned that he was sent to “support this new stage of change and transformation” and to work alongside Milei's Government in strengthening the alliance.
“Now is the time to trust in Argentina. Now is the time to invest in Argentina. Now is the time to open doors and close deals, create jobs, and build together,” Lamelas emphasized before officials, business leaders, and diplomatic representatives.
In later statements, the ambassador also highlighted the international impact of the Argentine President. “Milei has awakened the world,” he asserted, noting that Argentina is once again being observed by the major powers thanks to the direction taken by the libertarian Government.
Lamelas went further and also referred to Cuba, one of the most brutal symbols of communist failure in the region. When asked how long it will take for the Cuban people to be free, he replied: “If I have to bet, before the end of the year.”
