Milei destroyed Riquelme: 'Boca's current president was chosen by a River fan'
At the Inter-American Council of Commerce and Production, the head of state made ironic remarks about the management of the Xeneize boss and questioned his legitimacy
During his presentation at the Inter-American Council for Trade and Production (CICyP), President Javier Milei did not miss the opportunity to launch a direct criticism at Juan Román Riquelme, the top authority at Boca. This is not the first time the president has publicly questioned the former footballer for his role as a club executive, and this time he did so again with irony and a mocking tone.
Milei criticó a Riquelme
In the midst of his account of the attack he suffered during an event in Lomas de Zamora, Milei recalled episodes from his life linked to football, from his years as a youth player at Chacarita to experiences as a fan in different stands. There, he introduced a sharp comparison regarding the Xeneize leadership:
"When I went to see Boca-Palmeiras, when I was a Boca fan... I mean, as you can imagine... I think Boca's current president was chosen by a River fan. It wasn't you, was it? What do you think, Edu? It was definitely a River fan. It was Toto (Caputo), or you," he said with laughter, seeking complicity among those present.
After that jab, Milei resumed his anecdote to emphasize that he is "used to adversity," recalling violent incidents at stadiums such as Villa Dálmine or Morumbí, and even episodes from his time in youth football.
Milei's other criticisms of Román
This is not the first time the President of the Nation has become involved in the club's political life. In the December 2023 elections, where Riquelme decisively defeated the opposition ticket led by Andrés Ibarra and Mauricio Macri, the current head of state showed up to vote in support of the opposition.

Since then, he has not stopped highlighting differences: after the defeat in the September 2024 Superclásico, he spoke harshly on social media, and in November he was categorical in a radio interview: "It is clear that Riquelme's management is a disaster."
