The Government of Javier Milei announced the approval of the ninth project under the Incentive Regime for Large Investments (RIGI), which consists of the construction of a new port in the town of Timbúes, Santa Fe, on the Paraná River.
With an estimated investment of 277 million dollars, the initiative seeks to enhance the port infrastructure in the north of Greater Rosario and consolidate the Paraná-Paraguay waterway as a strategic axis for Argentine foreign trade.
"The Evaluation Committee has approved the ninth RIGI project: a new port in Timbúes (Santa Fe) on the Paraná River. With an investment of USD 277 million, it will be able to store fertilizers, iron ore, steel products, grains, and fuels, strengthening the Paraná waterway and its key role for Argentine agriculture and industry," stated the Minister of Economy, Luis "Toto" Caputo, on the social network X.

Additionally, Milei's official added that, with this new approval, the total approved investments within RIGI amount to 24.8 billion dollars.
First RIGI project in Santa Fe
The initiative, promoted by the company Terminal Timbúes S.A., represents the first investment under the RIGI regime in the province of Santa Fe. The company had submitted its proposal to Milei's government weeks ago with the aim of expanding its operational capacity and positioning itself as a central player in Argentine river trade.
Located at a strategic point on the Paraná River, the new port will allow the operation of large vessels and optimize export logistics, particularly for the agro-industrial complex in northern Santa Fe. Additionally, its infrastructure will be prepared for the storage and handling of various types of cargo, from grains to industrial products and fuels, which will significantly expand the versatility of port operations.

A boost for regional development
The entry of Terminal Timbúes into RIGI will facilitate access to tax, customs, and regulatory stability benefits for 30 years, conditions that the regime grants to investments exceeding 200 million dollars. These guarantees will allow capital to be channeled into infrastructure works, technological equipment, and logistical improvements, with a positive impact on productivity and local job creation.
The project will also strengthen the region's export competitiveness by reducing logistics costs and improving the connectivity of the river corridor with the main national routes. For Santa Fe, this approval marks a milestone in attracting strategic investments and a sign of confidence in the province's productive potential.
