Milei keeps a firm fiscal policy and anticipates vetoing pension increases

The Casa Rosada reaffirms its commitment to fiscal balance and anticipates vetoing projects that would jeopardize the surplus

The national government has reiterated its decision to veto any legislative initiative proposing increases in pensions, arguing that such measures would compromise fiscal balance. From the Casa Rosada, it was emphasized that no modifications will be made to the current Budget, even if Congress approves projects in that regard.

This stance aligns with President Javier Milei's strategy of maintaining a policy of austerity and control over public spending. The Executive considers that opposition proposals, which seek to increase pension benefits, represent a risk to the country's economic stability.

Opposition initiatives in Congress

Several opposition blocs, including kirchnerismo, federal Peronism and the left, have promoted bills to increase pensions and declare a disability emergency. These initiatives seek to compensate for the loss of retirees' purchasing power and address vulnerable sectors of the population.

However, the ruling party has made it clear that it is not willing to yield on its fiscal policy. A high-ranking government source told Infobae: "There is no chance that we'll touch the Budget".

Despite opposition demands, Milei's administration keeps its focus on reducing public spending and implementing policies that, according to its supporters, aim to lay the foundations for sustainable economic growth.
