The Court of Appeals overturned a previous ruling and determined that the club failed to pay the 15% corresponding to the sale of the youth player to Basel in 2021

San Lorenzo received a new financial blow. This time, the club was at the center of attention due to the lawsuit filed by Matías Palacios, who was claiming the 15% corresponding to his transfer to FC Basel of Switzerland in 2021.
What seemed to be a conflict already solved ended up reopening in the worst possible way. Chamber I of the Court of Appeals reversed the initial ruling and ordered the institution to pay the footballer 416,250 euros plus interest.
The situation took the club's management by surprise, as in April they had celebrated a favorable verdict. At that time, the court considered that Palacios himself was responsible for the amount claimed (about 200,000 dollars) and also rejected the player's counterclaim, in which he was seeking compensation for damages.
However, the review by the body completely changed the scenario, as it determined that El Ciclón failed to pay the percentage owed to the midfielder.

Palacios's claim dates back to his departure from the club, a move that, at the time, marked the end of an irregular cycle despite the expectations caused by his debut in the First Division at age 16 under Claudio Biaggio. At the highest level, he played only six matches and was unable to establish himself, although his talent did flourish in the Reserve, where he became a two-time champion in 2019 under Diego Monarriz, in addition to standing out in the youth national teams.
At the beginning of 2021, San Lorenzo decided to sell him to Basel, where he also failed to consolidate himself. Later, he moved to Al Ain of the United Arab Emirates, the club where he currently plays. From there, he continued with the legal claim that has now definitively advanced in his favor.

In a sporting and financial context already delicate for the Boedo club, this new setback once again exposes past management and adds a significant financial obligation that it will have to face.
