San Lorenzo added a new financial setback in the last few hours after the Argentine Football Association solved a pending claim for Agustín Giay's training rights. The governing body of Argentine football determined that Ciclón must face a payment of around 400 thousand dollars, which will be deducted directly from its income from audiovisual rights.
The decision was made by the National Dispute Resolution Chamber, which ruled in favor of Argentino de San Carlos, the full-back's training institution. The ruling establishes that Cuervo must pay 376,902 dollars, in addition to 2,707,687.50 pesos for "reimbursement of the claimant's advance on costs" and another 5,513,094.50 pesos corresponding to legal expenses.
The claim originated after Giay's transfer to Palmeiras, completed in June 2024 for an amount close to 7.5 million dollars for 75% of his rights. From that moment, the club from Santa Fe began proceedings to receive the amount that correplied to it under the solidarity mechanism provided for by FIFA and AFA.
San Lorenzo le debía el porcentaje del mecanismo de solidaridad en el pase de Giay al Palmeiras
According to what the president of Argentino de San Carlos, Norma Colussi, explained at the time, the institution tried to contact San Lorenzo on repeated occasions without obtaining any response, which led to the formal filing of the claim before AFA in October of last year. Once the case was opened, the club from Boedo was summoned and had a period of 21 days to appeal, but didn't file any legal remedy, so the decision became final.
With the ruling confirmed, the usual collection mechanism was activated. AFA will withhold the amount from the next television rights payments that correspond to Azulgrana and will transfer it to the club from Santa Fe. Part of that money, according to reports, was earmarked to meet current commitments of the professional squad.
Although the amount is smaller compared to other debts that the club had been carrying, the deduction comes at a financially delicate moment and adds to a series of obligations that continue to constrain management, even after the recent lifting of several transfer bans.
