The Unión de Educadores de la Provincia de Córdoba (UEPC) has confirmed that it will join the 24-hour national strike called by Ctera on Tuesday, October 14. The strike is taking place after the long weekend due to Friday's holiday and has a federal scope, with actions planned in different provinces. According to the organizers, the measure aims to highlight demands related to the funding of public education and the salary situation of workers.
In Córdoba, the protest will include a caravan along the Circunvalación that will begin at 10 a.m. at the northern access of Route 9 North and will end at Kempes stadium. The national plan includes various simultaneous union activities throughout the country, with demonstrations, roadblocks, and awareness events in strategic urban centers. The focus of the demands revolves around the lack of a call for collective bargaining and budget cuts that affect the education sector.
Roberto Cristalli, head of UEPC, stated that the strike is part of the ongoing Ctera action plan in response to the national government's education policy. "This is due to the lack of a call for national collective bargaining and the budget presented in Congress by the national government, which basically has three aspects that are very detrimental," he explained. Cristalli added that starting salaries for teachers in Córdoba are around 895,000 pesos (1,973 pounds) net while at the national level there is no guaranteed minimum due to the absence of collective bargaining.
