A new incident of insecurity once again shook the Buenos Aires district of San Martín and exposed an increasingly frequent reality:neighbors who end up acting on their own in the face of absence and exhaustion. This time, a group of residents intervened to thwart the attempted robbery by two motorcycle thieves of a woman, in a violent sequence that was captured by security cameras and went viral quickly on social media.
The incident occurred on Friday afternoon on Benedetti Street, a few meters from Camino del Buen Ayre. There, a woman was intercepted by two criminals who were riding a motorcycle and tried to snatch her purse while she was standing on a corner. When she resisted, the victim was dragged several meters, from the door of a house until she ended up lying on the asphalt.
In their attempt to flee, the motorcycle thieves made a sharp U-turn, butthey lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree, falling onto the sidewalk. Despite the impact, they managed to get to their feet and tried to escape on foot, at which point the neighbors, alerted by the screams and the violence of the scene, came out of their homes to intervene.
The footage shows how the residents used everyday objects to stop the criminals.A man blocked one of them with a floor squeegee, while another neighbor used a broom to hit and immobilize the second assailant. They even went so far as to remove the motorcycle seat to prevent the thieves from using it again as a means of escape.
