Locomotora Oliveras remains in critical condition: 'The neurological damage is irreversible'
The new medical report confirmed that the former boxer remains in serious condition, with no improvement after the stroke, and will have to remain on assisted breathing
The health of Alejandra "Locomotora" Oliveras remains very delicate. Just over a week after her hospitalization due to an ischemic stroke, the medical report released this Tuesday by Hospital Cullen offered no signs of improvement: her condition remains critical and, according to the doctors, the neurological damage is irreversible.
"The stroke caused irreversible damage," stated Dr. Néstor Carrizo, head of the hospital's intensive care unit, who explained that the former boxer "needs respiratory assistance, medication for hydration, nutrition, painkillers, and neurological monitoring." At this time, there are no plans to remove the ventilator: "her life depends on it."

Carrizo explained that the injury affects an entire hemisphere of the brain and, for that reason, it is not possible to begin another type of treatment. "The most important thing is clinical stability," he emphasized. When asked about the possibility of reversing the damage, the specialist was clear: "If we're talking about the functionality of that area of the brain, yes, it is irreversible. But we're not talking about the irreversibility of the neurological clinical condition."
Regarding possible aftereffects, the medical team was cautious. Although previous reports indicated a loss of mobility on the entire left side of her body, for now it is not possible to specify what kind of physical or cognitive consequences Oliveras might face.

"We're still in a phase where the most important thing is to maintain her nutrition and try to sustain the functioning of her organs. So this is not the time to talk about aftereffects," Carrizo concluded.
The family of the former world champion continues to closely monitor her progress, clinging to hope and in constant contact with the doctors. Meanwhile, the world of sports, and even politics, continues to send messages of support to one of the most emblematic figures in Argentine women's boxing.
