The decision to include Dragon Age: The Veilguard in PlayStation Plus is a big surprise for users.

Sony announced the three games coming to PlayStation Plus in March, and one of them has taken the gaming community by surprise.

It is Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the latest installment of BioWare's popular franchise, which was released last October 31. The inclusion of this title on PlayStation Plus just four months after its release is one of the fastest arrivals of a AAA game to the subscription service.

The decision to include Dragon Age: The Veilguard in PlayStation Plus seems to align with Electronic Arts (EA) reports on the game's low commercial performance. Despite receiving good reviews, the title didn't achieve the expected success in sales, and this move could boost its player base.

The other March games on PlayStation Plus

Along with Dragon Age: The Veilguard, two more games will be available on PlayStation Plus during March:

  • Sonic Colors: Ultimate – The remaster of the classic Sonic Colors, originally released on Nintendo Wii in 2010. This enhanced version includes updated graphics and an extra game mode.
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection – A collection of 13 classic Ninja Turtles games, developed by Konami between 1989 and 1994. The compilation includes iconic titles like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (arcade), The Hyperstone Heist (Sega Genesis), and three versions of Tournament Fighters.

These games will be available for download from March 4 to March 31.

The games leaving PlayStation Plus

As usual, the arrival of new titles means the departure of others. The games that will no longer be available on PlayStation Plus on March 3 are:

  • Payday 3
  • High on Life
  • Pac-Man World Re-Pac

PlayStation Plus subscribers still have time to claim them before they are removed from the catalog.

A change in strategy for PlayStation Plus

The rapid arrival of Dragon Age: The Veilguard to PlayStation Plus could mark a change in strategy for Sony and EA regarding AAA games within the service. Until now, the newest titles added were generally multiplayer at launch, but this decision suggests that studios are looking to boost their games with more active players after lower-than-expected commercial performance.

With a month offering a high-profile RPG, a remaster of a classic, and a nostalgic retro collection, PlayStation Plus presents an attractive variety of options for its subscribers in March.
