The newly appointed Pope Leo XIV is registered as a member of the Republican Party in the United States, according to conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. In a post on the social network X, Kirk showed that the political action group "Turning Point" disclosed some data about the new Pope's political affiliation.
Prevost, 69 years old, is said to have registered with the Republican Party in 2023, and since then has only participated in two elections. One of those occasions was in the presidential elections of 2024 held last November.
Despite holding some opinions contrary to those of President Donald Trump on issues such as immigration and climate action, Pope Leo XIV shares similar views with the U.S. leader on many other matters and very likely voted for Trump in the last elections.
