Pope Leo XVI is registered with the Republican Party of the United States
Robert Francis Prevost, who has been elected as the new Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church, is registered as a Republican in the United States
The newly appointed Pope Leo XIVis registered as a member of the Republican Party in the United States, according to conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. In a post on the social network X, Kirk showed that the political action group "Turning Point" disclosed some data about the new Pope's political affiliation.
Prevost, 69 years old, is said to have registered with the Republican Party in 2023, and since then has only participated in two elections. One of those occasions was in the presidential elections of 2024 held last November.
Despite holding some opinions contrary to those of President Donald Trump on issues such as immigration and climate action, Pope Leo XIV shares similar views with the U.S. leader on many other matters and very likely voted for Trump in the last elections.

The new Pope keeps a firm stance against gender ideology. The pontiff shared a 2017 Twitter post in which the government of Paraguay declared itself against gender ideology, reaffirming that the family consists of a father, a mother, and children.
Meanwhile, Prevost also noted in 2012 that he regretted that popular culture promotes homosexuality, and he also emphasized the importance of preserving the traditional family.
Like the vast majority of the Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIV has shown himself to be a strong opponent of the murderous ideology of abortion, which directly collides with all Christian values.
