The three also participated in the film adaptation of The Cat, another work based on Dr. Seuss's books, although that production received a very different reception from critics.
Jim Carrey had already expressed his interest in returning
In recent years, Jim Carrey has spoken several times about the possibility of portraying the famous green character again.
In an interview given in 2024, the actor explained that the main obstacle has always been the complex makeup process used in the original film.

"It was extremely exhausting and I could barely breathe," he acknowledged at that time. However, he also noted that today's motion capture technology could greatly facilitate a potential return to the character.
Thanks to these advancements, Carrey stated that he would be much more open to reprising the role he immortalized over two decades ago.

The franchise remains a success for Universal
The popularity of The Grinch did not end with the film starring Carrey. In 2018, Universal and Illumination released an animated version titled The Grinch, which also achieved excellent commercial results and solidified the character's relevance among new generations.
That success is one of the reasons driving the studio's interest in expanding the franchise once again.
