Provincial University of Córdoba confirmed this Friday the opening of a new campus in Villa Carlos Paz, which will become the first public university with a presence in the city. The decision seeks to expand the academic offerings in the Punilla department, prioritizing degree programs related to tourism and regional productive development. The establishment is part of the "UPC Federal" program, which promotes educational decentralization in the provincial interior.
According to official sources, the campus will initially operate in the current Arturo Umberto Illia Higher Institute, which will come under the jurisdiction of UPC to ensure the continuity of its educational programs. This way, it will be the only state-run tertiary institution in the locality and will concentrate the largest student enrollment in the area. Additionally, the Province announced the construction of a new building for the permanent operation of the university.
The rector of the Provincial University, Julia Oliva Cúneo, emphasized that the expansion "reaffirms the institution's commitment to the communities in the interior." The municipality of Villa Carlos Paz valued the agreement, highlighting that the academic proposal aims to strengthen the region's tourism and employment profile. The measure also includes the granting of tenure to teaching staff, ensuring stability and professional development.
