The Federal Police carried out raids in healthcare centers in Córdoba as part of a national investigation into contaminated fentanyl vials. During the procedures, thousands of adulterated vials that were under judicial custody in several establishments in the province were seized. These actions are part of the investigation into lethal batches that caused nearly one hundred deaths and led to arrests in other provinces.
The procedures were conducted in Buenos Aires, Córdoba, and Santa Fe with coordination to preserve the chain of custody of the seized evidence. Reports indicate that the seized vials belonged to compromised batches, withdrawn from circulation and kept under judicial custody. In Córdoba, institutions that had received related units were raided; sources specified that none were in use during the operation.
In August, the case progressed when Ariel García Furfaro turned himself in at Ezeiza; the investigation identifies him as a central figure in the production chain. So far, there are eleven people in custody and 24 indicted; the list includes relatives and executives whom the investigation places within the corporate structure. Among those arrested are Nilda Furfaro, Diego and Damián Furfaro, and Olga Luisa Arena, who was president of the company at the time of batch 31202.

Progress in arrests and accountability
Additionally, executives and technical managers of the implicated laboratories were arrested, holding executive positions at HLB Pharma and Laboratorio Ramallo. Among those detained are Javier Tchukran, Carolina Ansaldi, Víctor Boccaccio, José Antonio Maiorano, Horacio Tallarico, and Rodolfo Labrusciano. The judiciary seeks to determine the involvement and responsibility of each individual in the production, distribution, and control of the contaminated vials.
Investigators indicate that two batches manufactured in December 2023 may be the possible origin of the outbreak that caused nearly one hundred deaths. The seizure of vials in forty establishments expands the body of evidence and strengthens the hypothesis regarding the circulation of adulterated products. Documentation and seized material, along with the arrests of the corporate leadership, anticipate a high-impact judicial process in federal court.
With the progress against the implicated corporate leadership, the case is expected to result in a judicial process that will remain under federal jurisdiction. The expert analyses of batches and retained samples will be decisive in establishing traceability and possible responsibilities in the production chain. Following the seizures in several provinces, the case will continue gathering evidence to clarify the origin of the outbreak and determine accountability.
