Ramón Díaz won a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against Vasco da Gama.

For his dismissal, the Argentine coach and his son will receive 5 million dollars, but the club will seek to appeal so that the amount is paid by the previous owners

Ramón Díaz and his son Emiliano won a wrongful termination lawsuit against Vasco da Gama and the Brazilian club will have to pay them more than 5 million dollars.

The ruling, resulting from the lawsuit filed by the Díaz family, was confirmed by Globo Esporte after being reported by journalist Venê Casagrande. From Rio de Janeiro, the club has already announced that it will appeal the decision before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

According to the court's decision, Vasco will have to pay around 3 million dollars to Ramón as a penalty, in addition to another 150 thousand as compensation. Emiliano, meanwhile, will receive 2.3 million as a contractual penalty and an additional 115 thousand for the dismissal.

In the event of a possible final judicial setback, the club's management indicated that it could take legal action against former managers, such as the firms  777 and  A-CAP, former general manager  Lúcio Barbosa and former chief financial officer Katia dos Santos, whom they hold responsible for the conflict.

The legal dispute began after the 4-0 defeat against Criciúma on April 27, 2024. That same day, Vasco publicly announced that Ramón and Emiliano were no longer in their positions, something that surprised the coaching staff, who stated they found out through X. The club's version, however, claims that both verbally resigned after the match and later confirmed it to the board of directors.

Vasco da Gama's statement after losing the lawsuit with Ramón and Emiliano Díaz

Through an official statement, the club said: "This decision comes after both resigned on April 27, 2024, a period during which 777 Partners exercised control of SAF and management was in the hands of executives appointed by them".

"Vasco da Gama is considering the possibility of an appeal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). We also emphasize that if the decision is upheld, any credit arising from this process will be directed to the payment of creditors within the scope of Judicial Recovery", the Carioca institution added.
