One day after the renowned lawyer from Córdoba Carlos Nayi said that the case raised many doubts for him and took on the defense of the accused, a case of alleged gender-based violence is taking a radical turn.
Everything happened a week ago, when Tania Suárez disappeared from her home and, after having a meeting with a man, she appeared two days later bound and disoriented in the town of La Cumbre.
Un caso de supuesta violencia de género que despierta dudas.
There were marches and feminist groups came out to pressure the authorities to act quickly.
The investigation focused on Néstor Maldonado, who was arrested and charged with the crime of unlawful deprivation of liberty.
Women defend man accused of gender-based violence
This Tuesday, two women issued statements implying that everything that happened was a farce staged by Tania to "get attention".
"She asked him to go with her, that she had fought with her family", Néstor's niece stated.
"She saw on television that they were looking for her and she said: "Did you see now how they're going to worry about me?"", the detainee's relative said about the dialogue between Tania and Néstor.
Regarding the discovery of the woman bound near the fire station, the relative maintained that it was an explicit request from the woman.
"Tania asks him to tie her up and to leave her there on the side. He told her "No, Tania, how are we going to do this? You're going to get me in trouble". She insisted until he agreed", she stated.
Another testimony that contradicts the victim of gender-based violence
Gisela, a friend of Néstor, said that there was manipulation on Tania's part, who was Néstor's co-worker.
"He was blind because of her. I explained to him that when he gave her money, she disappeared, but he did not realize it", she maintained.
"She took money from him and she took out loans in his name. He lost his only card and he ended up owing everyone, including people who went to collect from him at work very angrily", she added.
With regard to the kidnapping accusation, Gisela suggested that it could be an extortion maneuver.
"It left me outraged because I have known him for years and I know that he is a person of excellent respect. In my view she thought of a new opportunity to get something from him".
