River reached an agreement with Flamengo and finalized Matías Viña.

River decided to leave behind a 2025 to forget with an aggressive, non-stop transfer window. After finalizing the arrivals of Fausto Vera and Aníbal Moreno to strengthen the midfield, the board and the coaching staff moved forward decisively to cover another sensitive area of the team: the left-back position.

The difficulties in finalizing negotiations for Román Vega, Julio Soler, Elías Báez, and Alexandro Bernabei led Millonario to redirect the search. In that context, the name of Matías Viña emerged strongly, a player who belongs to Flamengo, for whom the Núñez club submitted a formal loan offer with a purchase option.

The response from the Brazilian club was positive and the talks progressed quickly. In recent hours, River, Flamengo, and the player's camp reached a verbal agreement that finally unlocked the deal. 

One of the decisive factors in the negotiation was the player's desire, which was a determining factor. Viña pushed hard to wear La Banda's jersey and to take on a new challenge in his career. Thus, the recent Copa Libertadores champion released the defender so that he can join the squad coached by Marcelo Gallardo.

The transfer was completed through a one-year loan with a fee of 500 thousand dollars. In addition, the agreement includes a purchase option for 50% of his rights, which will become mandatory if the Uruguayan plays in at least half of the official matches during 2026. Meanwhile, the club will have the possibility of acquiring the remaining 50% in two installments of 25%, with the chance of securing full ownership of his rights in the future.

If no unforeseen issues arise, the full-back will join preseason training this Monday in San Martín de los Andes, becoming Millonario's third signing and a key piece for the rebuilding that River is looking to undertake heading into 2026.

Since his arrival at Mengão at the beginning of 2024, the Uruguayan has played 32 matches, in which he has scored one goal, provided two assists, and received two yellow cards. In addition, in his almost two years with the Rio de Janeiro side, he has won four titles: Copa do Brasil 2024, Supercopa do Brasil 2025, Brasileirão 2025, and Copa Libertadores 2025.
