Rocky returns to theaters: this is the actor who will portray a young Sylvester Stallone
The film will depict the challenging filming of 'Rocky' and will feature Anthony Ippolito in the role of a young Stallone
Rocky Balboa returns to the spotlight, but this time not in the ring. The iconic story created by Sylvester Stallone will be told from another angle in the film I Play Rocky, a movie that will depict the troubled production of the original 1976 film.
The project, produced by Amazon Studios, already has its lead confirmed: Anthony Ippolito, the New York actor who will portray a young Stallone, according to Variety.

Who is Anthony Ippolito, the new Rocky
Ippolito, just 26 years old, began his career as a baseball player before deciding to pursue acting. With roles in Pixels, Grand Army, and Purple Hearts, he gained recognition in The Offer, the Paramount series where he played Al Pacino.
His casting for I Play Rocky has an almost fateful quality. The actor himself sent in a recorded audition without being asked, and his performance immediately convinced the filmmakers.

A production that was almost a miracle
The original Rocky film was a true challenge for Stallone. Bankrupt and with few opportunities in Hollywood, he even sold his dog Butkus for 40 dollars so he could eat. Still, he wrote the script and managed to film with a minimal budget.
Many of the scenes were shot clandestinely in Philadelphia without permits, which turned the project into a cinematic miracle.
