Rojo was introduced as a new signing for Racing and signed a contract, but there is a problem.

With Boca's transfer rights in his possession, the defender joined Academia, where for now he will only be able to play in cup matches

After several back-and-forths, Marcos Rojo finally managed to solve his complicated departure from Boca and is now a new addition to Racing. In this regard, La Academia posted a welcome image on its social media with the message: "MARCOS SE COPA", a clear jab at his previous club.

Additionally, the Avellaneda club confirmed in its posts that the defender signed a one-year contract, until December 2026, with productivity-related clauses.

It should be clarified that to avoid mentioning its classic rival, Independiente, the defender's jersey, who will wear the number 6, will only say "Marcos R".

Rojo won't be able to play the Clausura

However, not everything is rosy, since the former Argentina National Team player won't be able to play matches corresponding to the local tournament. This is because he terminated his contract with Xeneize after July 24, the deadline for transfers in Argentine football.

According to article 19.2.4 of the regulations, a footballer registered as a free agent must have ended his contract before the deadline in order to participate in the local tournament. In Rojo's case, that condition was not met, so the 35-year-old defender is only eligible to play in the Copa Argentina and the Copa Libertadores.

On the international stage, Racing will face Peñarol in the round of 16 of the Libertadores, meanwhile in the Copa Argentina, it awaits in the quarterfinals the winner of the match between River and Unión.

In Avellaneda, they do not rule out filing an injunction or seeking some legal loophole to remedy the situation. The objective is to avoid negotiating with Boca's management, the club Rojo left amid differences that did not end on good terms.
