Since the arrival of the socialist Pedro Sánchez to the Presidency of the Government in mid-2018, Spain authorized exports of material considered "dual use" to the Islamic regime of Iran for an amount close to six million euros.
This can be seen in the official data published by the Secretariat of State for Trade, which is part of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Enterprise, corresponding to the period between the second half of 2018 and the first half of 2024, the latest available report.
According to that official information, exports of this type of material, destined for both the Iranian public and private sectors, began to be recorded after the motion of no confidence against Partido Popular that brought the PSOE leader to Moncloa. In the second half of 2018 alone, the total exported value reached 2,912,281 euros, marking the beginning of a series of commercial operations that continued in the following years.

During 2019, authorized sales rose to 1,242,188 euros. In 2020, the amount fell to 342,415 euros, while in 2021 it increased again to 634,825 euros. In 2022, recorded exports reached 210,681 euros; in 2023, 256,536 euros; and in the first half of 2024, the amount was 304,278 euros. Taken together, the sum of the operations carried out since Sánchez's arrival in the Government is around six million euros up to and including the first half of 2024.
"Dual use" material includes products, software, and technology that can have both civilian and military or nuclear applications. According to the details in the official reports, a significant part of Spanish exports to Iran focused on components destined for the oil, gas, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical industries.

That same official report pointed to the "uncertainty" that existed at the international level regarding the "Iran nuclear deal".
During 2021, Spanish exports to the country governed by the ayatollahs once again consisted of "a sterilizable lyophilizer for the pharmaceutical industry" and "spare parts for valves for the petrochemical industry and the oil sector", for a total value of 634,825 euros.
