With the year about to end, worrying news shook Brazil. Former footballer Roberto Carlos was subjected to an emergency cardiac procedure at a hospital in São Paulo after doctors detected abnormal functioning in part of his heart.
The historic left back from Real Madrid had gone to the medical center to undergo tests for a small thrombus in one leg, but the examinations raised alarms and led to an immediate hospitalization.
According to AS, during the preventive examinations the physicians decided to perform a full-body MRI. It was then that they detected that a very high percentage of his heart was not functioning properly, which forced an immediate hospitalization and subsequent admission to the operating room.
The surgery to place a catheter, which was initially going to last just 40 minutes, ended up being extended to nearly three hours due to complications that arose during the procedure. Nevertheless, the outcome was favorable and the former defender is out of danger.
