The Government of Javier Milei advanced this Sunday with a new phase of the restructuring of the National Intelligence System by announcing the creation of the National Intelligence Corps and presenting a new Intelligence Personnel Statute, with the aim of professionalizing the structure of the SIDE.
According to an official report from the State Intelligence Secretariat, the reform aims to lay the foundations for a professional, modern institution permanently oriented towards the defense of national interests, after decades characterized by improvisation, institutional degradation, and the lack of a long-term strategic policy.

One of the main changes will be the implementation, for the first time in Argentine history, of a Intelligence Career within the SIDE. The new system will feature an open and transparent admission process and selection mechanisms that, according to the agency, will be rigorous, competitive, and depoliticized.
From the new statute, professional development will be based on merit, training, experience, and performance, while personnel training will have a specialized and permanent character.
The Government indicated that the decision is part of the process initiated to rebuild a strategic capacity of the State considered essential for the defense of sovereignty, security, and Argentine interests.
The reform also seeks to provide the agency with an institutional identity that can transcend different administrations. The goal set by the SIDE is to form a professional body with high standards of preparation and capacity to understand international scenarios, anticipate threats, and protect the strategic interests of the country.
The official statement also questioned the functioning of the system over the last decades and stated that Argentine Intelligence has gone through a deterioration process marked by improvisation and the absence of a sustained strategy.

In this regard, the administration of Javier Milei aims for the reorganization not to be limited to administrative modifications, but also to reach the mechanisms through which agents are incorporated, trained, and promoted.
With the new statute, the Government thus seeks to consolidate a professional State Intelligence and recover a strategic tool for national security and defense, within the institutional modernization process promoted since the beginning of the current administration.
