Cristian Auguadra's meeting with the CIA leadership in Langley reinforced the bilateral agenda on intelligence, terrorism and regional security.

The State Intelligence Secretariat returned to the center of the international agenda after an image of the Secretary of Intelligence, Cristian Auguadra, was released, together with the director of the CIA, John L. Ratcliffe, and the deputy director of the American organization, during the meeting held last March 24 at the headquarters of the agency in Langley, Virginia

.

The photo confirms the political and institutional dimension of a meeting that marked a new stage in the link between Argentine intelligence and the United States. Under the government of Javier Milei, SIDE has been developing a cooperation agenda focused on transnational threats, internal professionalization, the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking, money laundering and foreign influence

operations.

At that meeting, Ratcliffe announced the decision to grant institutional recognition to SIDE personnel for the results obtained in recent joint operations, the ongoing professionalization process and the creation of the National Anti-Terrorism Center. This structure was valued as a unique initiative in the region and as an important step to reposition Argentina within the hemispheric security architecture

.

For years, Argentine intelligence was associated with political insiders, illegal eavesdropping and leaks. The Milei Government left behind that scheme, imposing a different logic: professionalization, international cooperation and response to specific threats

.

SIDE and the case of the Russian operator arrested in Argentina

This new approach was demonstrated by the arrest of Dmitrii Novikov, the Russian citizen accused of leading an international disinformation network with operations in Argentina. As reported by the Government, Novikov had entered the country as a tourist, but the authorities maintained that his real objective was to operate on the level of political influence and

digital manipulation.

The State Intelligence Secretariat indicated that the Russian citizen was arrested with judicial authorization and expelled from the national territory for being in an irregular migratory situation, having falsified the reasons for his entry and representing a risk to national security. In addition, the agency noted that Novikov had already been expelled from the Dominican Republic for his participation in disinformation activities linked to an organization with a history of interfering

in different countries.

The operation was carried out jointly by the Argentine Federal Police, the National Directorate of Migration and SIDE, and took place in Lanús, province of Buenos Aires. The case exposed a growing concern for the Milei Government: the use of foreign networks of influence to intervene in the Argentine public debate, erode institutions and condition political processes.

The photo of Auguadra in Langley, in this context, functions as more than just a diplomatic postcard. It represents Argentina's alignment and commitment to a Western security agenda, the recomposition of strategic links and a clear signal to external actors that intend to operate

within the country.
