One of the members of the gang that defrauded and extorted the soldier who committed suicide at Quinta de Olivos is a Kirchnerist activist from the Movimiento Evita and an employee of the Municipalidad de Morón, according to what became known in the judicial investigation.
This is Karen Yael Cufré, 25 years old, who was arrested by the Homicide Division of the Argentine Federal Police along with six other suspects. The young woman, who lives in the Carlos Gardel shantytown in El Palomar, in the Buenos Aires district of Morón, is accused of being part of the criminal organization responsible for the fraud that led to the death of the soldier from Formosa Rodrigo Andrés Gómez.
The serviceman took his own life on December 16 of last year while he was on guard duty in a watch post at the presidential residence. According to the case file, he had been the victim of an organized extortion scheme from inside a Buenos Aires prison, through a fake police procedure that falsely accused him of a serious crime.
The gang used an elaborate deception mechanism that consisted of simulating a child pornography case supposedly initiated by the Buenos Aires Provincial Police. Through this scheme, the members of the organization intimidated the victim and demanded payments under threats, creating psychological pressure that proved decisive in the fatal outcome.

The group operated from the Magdalena prison, where the leaders of the organization were being held. Among them was Mauricio Duarte Areco, convicted of robbery and with a record of accessory after the fact since his youth. Duarte Areco also maintained a relationship with Karen Cufré, who allegedly played a key role as an external operator for the gang.
The gang's operation
The criminal structure operated under a dual-command scheme. Duarte Areco shared leadership with Tomás Francavilla, a criminal from La Matanza who was sentenced to more than three years in prison. Both coordinated operations from prison, while their partners acted as executors on the outside.
In that context, the girlfriends of the criminal leaders carried out essential logistical functions, including the collection of money through virtual wallets and the management of the operations necessary to sustain the functioning of the fraud scheme. Cufré's participation in this circuit is one of the central points of the judicial accusation.
