'Star Trek' returns to theaters: Paramount is preparing two new movies
Paramount is preparing two Star Trek movies: one with new characters and another with the classic cast
After years of failed projects and rumors, Star Trek will return to the big screen with two films in development. The merger between Paramount and Skydance Media has driven this dual plan, which aims to balance innovation and homage to the classics.
The goal is clear: to satisfy longtime fans while also attracting new audiences with fresh proposals. Neither production has a confirmed release date, but both are a priority for the studio.

Two paths for the same saga
The first project will be directed by Toby Haynes (Andor) and written by Seth Grahame-Smith. It will be a story with completely new characters, expanding the universe without relying on the usual icons.
The second production will aim directly at nostalgia: Kirk, Spock, and the Enterprise crew will return with a script by Steve Yockey. It could reunite Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto in what is speculated to be their final joint mission.
A return after nearly a decade
The last cinematic appearance was in 2016 with Star Trek Beyond, which celebrated the saga's 50th anniversary. Although it received positive reviews, its box office gross was the lowest of the Kelvin Timeline launched in 2009 by J.J. Abrams.

Since then, the franchise has gone through a long "development hell," with discarded scripts and directors who left. There was even talk of a project by Quentin Tarantino and another by Noah Hawley with a pandemic storyline.
Paramount's strategy for the future
Haynes's film picks up the idea of expanding the universe with new faces, something crucial to maintaining relevance in a saturated market. However, the bet on a legacy sequel with the classic cast seeks to capitalize on the power of nostalgia.
