A strong 5.9 magnitude earthquake was recorded this Wednesday in La Rioja, causing alarm in several neighboring provinces.
The seismic movement was felt in Catamarca, San Juan, and Córdoba, and caused collapses in century-old buildings in Famatina.

Where was the epicenter of the earthquake?
According to the National Institute of Seismic Prevention (INPRES), the epicenter was in Famatina, about 130 km northwest of the capital city.
The magnitude was 5.9 on the Richter scale. This makes it the most powerful recorded in the area in recent years.
Destruction in houses and parishes
In the town of Campanas, adobe constructions used as warehouses collapsed. There were also reports of collapses in the Santo Domingo parish and cracks in century-old homes.
