The situation with Barracas Central in the Sudamericana Cup was inevitable. From the beginning, it was clear that a club that relies on refereeing assistance would suffer in a tournament where neither the Argentine Football Association (AFA) nor its nefarious president, Claudio "Chiqui" Tapia, closely linked to Guapo, had direct influence.
This reality is not only reflected in the final results of the matches (0 wins, 3 draws, and 2 losses) and their performance in the tournament (last in Group G with three points and no chance even to play in the playoffs), but also in what happens within them. In the five matchdays of the group stage of "The Great Conquest," the pampered team of power suffered the same number of red cards as it had accumulated in all Argentine football competitions since November 2024.
The last red card came this Thursday in the 2-0 defeat against Audax Italiano, when Gonzalo "Toro" Morales was sent off and left Guapo again with one man down for the third time in the first phase of the tournament. The forward thus joined a list that already included Maximiliano Puig, sent off against Vasco da Gama, and Nicolás Demartini, who had seen red against Olimpia.
