There is a change of command in the Army, Navy, and Joint Chiefs of Staff; the Air Force keeps continuity
The Government moved forward on Wednesday with the reorganization of military leadership following the new command at the Defense Ministry. Through a message shared on social media, the newly appointed Minister of Defense, Carlos Presti, confirmed that President Javier Milei had accepted his proposals to appoint the new heads of the Armed Forces. The decision comes as part of the transition toward a modernized, professional defense framework aligned with international standards.
Presti explained that Division General Oscar Santiago Zarich will be the new Chief of the Argentine Army, a change that marks the beginning of a phase aimed at strengthening the doctrine, discipline, and operational capacity of the land force. Zarich, who has extensive internal experience and a background in strategic areas, will assume responsibility for leading the Army's modernization in line with the new vision of the Executive Branch.

For the Argentine Navy, the President appointed Vice Admiral Juan Carlos Romay, who will take command of the naval force in a context where the protection of maritime resources and sovereign presence in the South Atlantic once again play a central role. The Government believes that Romay possesses the necessary operational and technical profile to drive ongoing reforms and optimize the country's naval capabilities.
Meanwhile, Vice Admiral Marcelo Alejandro Dalle Nogare was appointed as the new Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the body that coordinates the integrated action of the three forces. His role will be key to deepening interoperability, advancing strategic planning, and overseeing military transformation programs, working directly with the President and the Ministry of Defense.
The Air Force, on the other hand, will not undergo any changes: Brigadier General Gustavo Valverde was confirmed in his position. The Government interprets this continuity as recognition of his leadership and as a sign of stability in the ongoing process of aerial re-equipment that has been promoted in recent months. The appointments, also confirmed by Chief of Cabinet Manuel Adorni, come after the swearing-in of the new deputies and are part of a broader scheme of institutional organization: they show a contrast with the improvisation and deterioration that characterized defense management during previous administrations.
While Peronism spent years undermining its capabilities, cutting training, and defunding the military structure, the current Government aims to restore serious standards and return to the Armed Forces the strategic role that is rightfully theirs in national security.
