The Congress Center that houses the World Economic Forum (WEF) in the Swiss town of Davoswas evacuated as a precaution on Tuesday after an unusual smell was detected inside the venue, which led to the immediate intervention of emergency services and the exit of delegates, journalists, and event staff.
According to witnesses at the scene, the smell was causing coughing and respiratory discomfort in some areas of the building. Faced with the situation, the authorities ordered an immediate evacuation, asking attendees to leave the venue without collecting their personal belongings. The measure caused moments of confusion, while firefighters, ambulances, and other emergency teams were deployed in the area.
Journalist Lilli Gruber, who was covering the forum, reported that the evacuation took place in a context of a strong security presence, with helicopters flying over the area and numerous firefighters in the vicinity.
According to her account, there was an initial suspicion that the incident might be related to a fire in a nearby hotel, although this information wasn't officially confirmed.

The incident occurred shortly after the keynote speech by the president of the United States, Donald Trump, who had already left the venue before the evacuation began, according to a White House spokesperson.
In his address to the forum, Trump delivered a speech in which he reiterated his intention for the United States to obtain control of Greenland, assuring that he wouldn't resort to the use of force to achieve it.
After the security review, the event was able to resume normally, while the authorities continue investigating the origin of the incident.
