The City of Buenos Aires carried out an eviction operation on a property located in the Parque Avellaneda neighborhood that was illegally occupied without authorization by the cooperative El Amanecer de los Cartoneros, linked to the Movimiento de Trabajadores Excluidos (MTE), an organization led by the communist Juan Grabois.
The intervention was carried out on a plot of land located under the Perito Moreno Highway, at the height of Ameghino 1035, which was used as a warehouse without having the corresponding permits.
The procedure began in the early hours of this Wednesday and included the participation of different areas of the Buenos Aires City Government. According to official reports, around 20 agents from the Ministry of Public Space and Urban Hygiene took part, along with heavy machinery and trucks intended to clear the site.

The operation also included the presence of officers from the City Police and personnel from the Assistance Network, with the aim of ensuring the development of the intervention and providing assistance in the event of social situations arising from the eviction.
The Buenos Aires City administration indicated that the measure responds to the decision of the current administration to prioritize legality and move forward with the restitution of public and private assets that are irregularly occupied. In that regard, it was stated that the property had been used as a warehouse without authorization, which prompted the action of the competent authorities.
After the eviction, the land will come under the jurisdiction of the General Directorate of Asset Administration, which reports to the Ministry of Finance and Economy of the City, which will be responsible for assessing what its final use will be.

Regarding the political reactions, the communist leader Juan Grabois did not release statements about the operation. However, Movimiento de Trabajadores Excluidos released images of the eviction and criticized both the actions of the police officers and the administration of the Buenos Aires City Mayor, Jorge Macri.
According to official information, this operation is part of a series of similar actions carried out by the City in the last two years. With this intervention, there are now more than 550 properties recovered during that period.
The eviction in Parque Avellaneda is also part of a set of recent measures adopted to regulate the use of public space. Among them, the operations carried out to evict street vendors in 13 areas considered emblematic, such as Once, Flores, and Constitución, were mentioned.
