What was supposed to be a night of celebrations for Mexico ended up leaving a reprehensible image from its fans. After the 2-0 victory over Ecuador, which sealed the Tri's qualification to the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, a group of fans was involved in incidents at the Estadio Azteca.

Among the various situations that arose, there is one that took all the attention. Just minutes after the end of the match, Ecuadorian journalist José Carlos Crespo was hit with a cup of beer while conducting a live broadcast for Teleamazonas.

The communicator was sharing the live broadcast with Alfonso Laso and Gisella Buendía analyzing the harsh elimination of their national team when the object, thrown from the upper part of the stadium, struck him directly in the face. Images of the incident quickly began circulating on social media and showed the exact moment when Crespo was hit live on air.

According to the journalists themselves, the aggression was not an isolated or unexpected event. For several minutes they had warned that a group of Mexican fans was throwing objects towards the area designated for the press and, in light of that situation, they requested the intervention of police officers several times, who were just a few meters away, but they did not manage/want to control the situation.

In addition to the aggression towards the communicators, South American fans also suffered repeated instances, both before, during, and after the match, various insults and mistreatment from the locals. One of the most circulated episodes in recent hours is that of a Mexican supporter throwing a cup of beer at two Ecuadorians who were leaving the field.

Despite this lack of respect, which was also accompanied by insults from other people present such as "putísimo", they maintained their composure and continued on their way.
