What was supposed to be a normal day of soccer ended in tragedy in Boca del Río, Mexico. A clash between supporters of Racing de Veracruz and Celaya, after the match for the Liga Premier MX, third division of Mexican soccer, at the Hugo Sánchez Sports Complex, left as a result one fan dead and several injured.
The victim was identified as Carlos Alberto Ortiz Ortega, 33 years old, nicknamed "El Biyik", who had traveled along with about 70 supporters of Toros de Celaya to cheer for his team. According to reports, at the end of the match he was intercepted by members of the local supporters' group in the vicinity of the stadium and attacked with blunt objects.
Testimonies collected by regional media indicate that the assault began when groups from both sides crossed paths in the area. Stones were thrown and sticks appeared amid the chaos. A witness stated that Ortiz Ortega tried to escape, but he received a strong blow to the head that caused his death on the spot. His body was found on Constitución Street, in the Ricardo Flores Magón neighborhood, a few blocks from the stadium.

In addition to the deceased, at least six people were injured, two of them seriously, and they were taken to the Boca del Río Regional Hospital. Nearby businesses also suffered damage and residents reported moments of panic.
