Trump's administration relaunched the CBP app and added a feature to 'self-deport'

It will allow undocumented individuals to register their voluntary departure, offering them the option to return legally in the future.

The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) launched a new mobile application called CBP Home, designed for illegal immigrants to report their intention to voluntarily leave the country, according to official sources.

This application replaces CBP One, introduced in 2020 during Donald Trump's presidency, which allowed asylum seekers to schedule appointments at entry points.

CBP One was deactivated on the first day of Trump's new term, and its updated version now seeks to simplify the "self-deportation" process for undocumented individuals.

"The Biden administration exploited the CBP One app to allow more than a million foreigners to enter the United States illegally. With the launch of the CBP Home app, we are restoring the integrity of our immigration system," declared DHS Secretary Kristi Noem in a statement.

The new tool is part of a $200 million advertising campaign under the slogan "Stay Out and Leave Now".

The app, already available in digital stores and which will automatically update for those who used CBP One, will allow illegal immigrants to register their voluntary departure, offering them the option to return legally in the future.

According to The Hill, "the government doesn't have precise control over the location of the more than 11 million people living in the country without documentation", which could complicate the implementation of this measure.

Noem explained that CBP Home seeks to optimize operational resources and allow Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to focus on deporting those undocumented individuals with criminal records. "If they don't, we'll find them, deport them, and they will never return," she warned.

In addition to its self-deportation function, the app offers travelers the ability to register documents and check wait times at border crossing points.
