The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced on Sunday that US forces have sunk nine ships of the Iranian navy as part of the ongoing military operations against that country. In a message posted on the social network X, the president stated that some of the destroyed vessels were “relatively large and important” and assured that the Iranian naval headquarters has been “extensively
destroyed” in separate attacks.
“We're going for the rest, soon they'll also be floating on the bottom of the sea,” Trump wrote, stressing that the offensive continues with the objective of neutralizing military capabilities that pose a direct threat to global security.
The military operation began on Saturday at 1:15 a.m., with the stated purpose of dismantling “the security apparatus of the Iranian regime”, prioritizing objectives that represented imminent threats.
Among the targets attacked were Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) command and control facilities, air defense systems, missile and drone launch sites, and military airfields
.
In a separate action, B-2-class bombers dropped bombs weighing more than 900 kilos at fortified installations linked to Iranian ballistic missiles, CENTCOM reported. The command also announced that three U.S. servicemen died in combat and that another five were seriously injured during operations
.
In parallel, the IRGC claimed that it had hit the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln with ballistic missiles. However, CENTCOM denied that version and called the statement false. “The Lincoln was not hit. The missiles launched didn't even come close,” said the military commander, adding that the ship continues to carry out air operations in the region. The Lincoln strike group operates alongside the one led by the USS Gerald R. Ford, in what officials describe as the largest deployment of U.S. military power in the Middle East in decades
.
Among the objectives achieved was also the compound of the supreme Iranian dictator Ali Khamenei, whose death was confirmed by Trump on Saturday. The president called the moment “the greatest opportunity for the Iranian people to recover their
country.” While Iran falsely claimed that it had successfully attacked the USS Lincoln, it was denied by the Trump administration.
