The UN Security Council approved the creation of an international force to guarantee the safety of civilians and stability in the Middle East

The United Nations Security Council approved a historic resolution for Gaza's future on Monday, endorsing the plan promoted by the United States that establishes the deployment of an international stabilization force in the Palestinian enclave.

The text received 13 votes in favor and the abstentions of Russia and China, and sets a new course in multilateral efforts to ensure security and reconstruction after months of violence.

The resolution authorizes a temporary multinational mission until the end of 2027, with powers to use "all necessary measures," language that, in practice, enables the use of force under international standards, to ensure security in Gaza, protect humanitarian corridors, monitor the borders with Egypt and Israel, and advance a demilitarization process that includes the dismantling of weapons belonging to terrorist groups such as Hamas.

For the first time, a text of this kind includes an explicit reference to a "credible path toward Palestinian self-determination and stability," considered a key element for stabilizing the territory's future governance. The Council also establishes that, after reforms in the Palestinian Authority and progress in reconstruction, conditions may be assessed to move toward eventual state recognition.

The approval was celebrated by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who praised the vote on his Truth Social platform and stated that the decision constitutes "one of the greatest approvals in the history of the United Nations."

Trump also highlighted the creation of a Peace Board, a transitional body that he will chair alongside international leaders and that will be responsible for coordinating aid, managing economic recovery, and overseeing the institutional transition.

The United States Ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz, stated that the resolution marks "a turning point toward a safe, peaceful, and potentially prosperous Gaza," and emphasized that the adoption of the text constitutes the beginning of a broader process of reconstruction and regional cooperation.

Based on Trump's 20-point plan, the project invites member states to participate both in the multinational force and in the future Palestinian police that will be trained by the mission.

It also provides for close coordination with Israel and Egypt to ensure the flow of aid, the operation of humanitarian corridors, and an eventual gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces depending on progress in stabilization.

The resolution received formal backing from the Palestinian Authority and active support from countries such as Qatar, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and Türkiye, which called for swift approval to facilitate their participation in the mission and strengthen the provision of assistance.
