The United States ambassador to Argentina, Peter Lamelas, once again publicly thanked Javier Milei's government for its support of the operation for Maduro's capture. Likewise, he demanded the release of political prisoners detained in Venezuela.
Through a post on the social network X, the diplomat stated that the United States and Argentina share the defense of a"safe, free Western Hemisphere that respects the sovereignty of nations".

Demand for political prisoners and hostages
In his message, Lamelas reaffirmed that "Washington supports the release of hostages and political prisoners who are unjustly detained" by the Venezuelan regime. He also maintained that "freedom and justice must guide our efforts throughout the region".
The statement took place in a context of renewed international complaints against the Chavista government for the arbitrary detention of foreign citizens and political opponents.
During a presentation held this past weekend in Paraguay, prior to the signing of the trade agreement between Mercosur and the European Union, President Milei once again demanded the release of Argentine citizens detained in Caracas.

"We value the decision and determination demonstrated by Donald Trump, and by his entire government, in the actions taken in Venezuela that led to the capture of the narco-terrorist dictator, Nicolás Maduro", stated the head of state.
Likewise, he explicitly demanded the release of Nahuel Gallo and the rest of the Argentine and foreign political prisoners who are being held "in an arbitrary and illegal manner". This constitutes a clear violation of human rights.
Davos and a possible meeting between Milei and Trump
In the coming days, Milei will travel to the Swiss city of Davos to take part in the World Economic Forum. He will be accompanied by the Secretary General of the Presidency, Karina Milei; the Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno; and the ministers Luis Caputo and Federico Sturzenegger.

The President will take part in a panel titled "How can we cooperate in a more contested world?" He will also hold meetings with executives from JP Morgan Chase, BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, BBVA and Santander.
The overlap in timing between Milei's and Trump's presentations is fueling expectations about a possible informal meeting between the two leaders, with high symbolic value in the current geopolitical scenario.
Argentina joins the Board of Peace
Javier Milei y Donald Trump
On Saturday, Trump announced the creation of the Board of Peace, a body that will bring together countries committed to the fight against terrorism and the defense of freedom. In that context, he invited Argentina to join it as a founding member.
Milei accepted the invitation and assured that Argentina "will always stand with the countries that openly fight against terrorism, that defend life and property, and that promote peace and freedom".
According to the President, the invitation was formalized through a letter in which Trump detailed his comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict, later endorsed by the United Nations Security Council.
