An ordinary Sunday of soccer in Italy ended in a violent domestic episode. While the match between Atalanta and Napoli for the Serie A was being played, a 35-year-old woman stabbed her husband in their home in the Capodimonte area, in Naples, after interpreting that the insults he was shouting at the television were directed at her.
The incident occurred near the end of the first half of the match, which ended in favor of the Bergamo team. The referee reviewed a penalty in favor of the Neapolitan team through VARand decided to overturn it, which unleashed the fury of the 40-year-old man, who began to shout and hurl insults at the screen.
According to reconstructions by local media, the woman heard the shouting from another part of the home and believed that it was directed at her. The argument escalated quickly. "Leave or I'll stab you!", she reportedly shouted at him before moving from threat to assault.
First, she threw a pair of scissors at him, but she did not manage to injure him. Then she went to the kitchen, took a knife and, after a failed attempt, succeeded in stabbing him in the left side of his body. However, the violence did not end there, since she also threw other sharp objects, one of which ended up embedded in the wall of the residence.
Officers from the Carabinieri of the Capodimonte precinct went to the scene after an emergency call and subdued the assailant. At the scene they found several knives, some of them inside the woman's purse.

The man was taken to a local hospital and, according to official sources, he is out of danger. Meanwhile, the woman was arrested and faces charges of aggravated assault and domestic violence.
In sports terms, the defeat left Napoli further away from the title race, but the result was overshadowed by an episode that exposed how an argument could have ended in tragedy.
