An unusual situation occurred this Tuesday in Junín. Two men were arrested, accused of committing a fraud using the identity of Sarmiento's president, Fernando Chiofalo, to deceive businesses in the city.
The investigation began after a complaint from a well-known company in the sector, Forte House, which received an unusual order for high-end bathroom fixtures, faucets, and porcelain tiles. Given the suspicions, the employees contacted Chiofalo himself, who denied having made the purchase and confirmed that it was an attempted fraud.

With the intervention of Functional Instruction Unit No. 1, headed by prosecutor Vanina Lisazo, officers from the DDI set up controlled surveillance of the freight truck that was transporting the merchandise. The truck was intercepted at a private residence, where the police surprised two men, aged 30 and 33, in the middle of the unloading process. Both tried to flee when they noticed the police presence, but were subdued a few meters from the scene.
The situation of the detainees worsened when their criminal records were verified. One of them had recently been released after serving a sentence in a prison in Junín, while the other was under a semi-detention regime with an electronic ankle monitor and had to spend every night at Penitentiary Unit No. 16. Investigators suspect that he made the phone contacts from there, taking advantage of his daily outings.
The two individuals were charged with the crime of fraud and placed at the disposal of the justice system, which also seized mobile devices to determine whether they are linked to other similar incidents in the region.

This is not the first incident of this kind involving the image of Sarmiento's president. In February 2025, the club had already publicly warned about fraudulent calls made in Chiofalo's name and had alerted the Junín community about phone numbers used to deceive suppliers.
