During the itinerary, he visited critical points such as San Carlos —the site of the English landing— and Puerto Darwin. Regarding this, he emotionally recounted:

“Yesterday was one of the most emotional days. We were in San Carlos, where the English landed” and, regarding Puerto Darwin, he detailed that “it was something that could not be sustained and was the first place where the English set foot”.

The cause for the sovereignty of the Malvinas Islands is more alive than ever in the soul of the Argentines under the management of Javier Milei. In this new era of nationalist and right-wing sentiment, where the submissive policies of the past are swept away to make way for the direct vindication of our fighters, territorial sovereignty is defended with acts of absolute individual courage against a British usurpation that maintains a militarized airport and subjects Argentines to exhaustive and hostile interrogations upon entry with a passport.

In this scenario of unresolved tensions, the war veteran Eduardo Canitrot, who currently serves honorably as secretary of the Social Development portfolio, made his return to the usurped national territory after 44 years of having defended the Homeland in 1982.

At just under 20 years old when he was called to fight, Canitrot returned on August 12, 2026 accompanied by his daughter to pass on the legacy of sovereignty to new generations: “So they remember when one is no longer here”.

Despite the strict prohibitions imposed by the occupying administration, this national hero defied the British order and raised the Argentine flag in the streets of the islands. The main focus of this brave action was to pay a profound and unrenounceable tribute to Captain Pedro Edgardo Giachino, a national hero and the first Argentine fallen who heroically lost his life during the landing on April 2, 1982.

The journey of Canitrot was filled with the harsh reality of the war scenario. Describing the sensations of landing at an airport under British military control, the veteran stated in a radio interview:

“When we landed the other day at an airport that is now militarized, we felt a different sensation”.

On this journey of healing and reaffirmation, the veteran noted the coldness of the occupation by stating that, “after more than 40 years, the wounds have not healed on either side”.

The climax of this moving and patriotic journey was experienced at the Darwin cemetery. “When you arrive at the Darwin cemetery, it's like there’s no way not to break down when we see all the graves of our comrades”, he described with deep emotion.

There, Providence facilitated a meeting of enormous military significance when he crossed paths with his former war chief: “I met with who was my boss and I couldn't contain the emotion I felt after so many years. It was a couple of hours that were irreplaceable”.

Finally, Eduardo Canitrot fulfilled the sacred blood oaths sealed on the battlefield more than four decades ago, paying tribute at the graves of the fallen Omar Herrera and Alejandro Pereyra, and very specially at the cross of his comrade-in-arms, Pedro Larrosa, to whom he dedicated the most heart-wrenching message of his journey:

“So many years dreaming of this moment, to pay tribute to the fallen in the islands, to Omar Herrera and Alejandro Pereyra, and especially to you, friend, brother. I came, Pedro, as I promised you”. An act of patriotic rebellion that demonstrates that, despite the bureaucrats of the occupation, the Malvinas were, are, and will always be Argentine.
