Insecurity in Greater Buenos Aires has once again been exposed after a violent shootout between two families was recorded in the Los Ceibos neighborhood, La Matanza district. The incident, which occurred in the middle of a public street and in broad daylight, was recorded by neighbors and went viral on social media, which led the judiciary to intervene ex officio.
The incident takes place in a context of increasing deterioration of provincial security, a problem arising from the lack of effective policies by Kirchnerist governor Axel Kicillof.
The confrontation took place this Monday in Block 26 of Los Ceibos, bordered by Sanabria, Coronel Conde, Bahía Blanca, Juan Pío Gana, and Zelada streets.
In the footage shared by the X account @Leigianni, at least six gunshots can be heard and four armed men are seen exchanging fire in front of occupied homes. According to the initial investigation, the conflict originated from a family dispute over the possession of a property.
Prosecutor Andrea Palin, from UFI No. 11 of La Matanza, opened a case for "firearm abuse" and ordered procedures to identify those responsible. Police personnel, aware of the impact the video had on digital platforms, arrived at the scene and managed to reconstruct the dynamics of the conflict. Despite the seriousness of the episode, no injuries were reported.
The conflict involves two family groups: on one side, the S family, not originally from the area, and on the other, the Z family, who occupy an adjacent home. According to the investigation, after a series of mutual threats, members of the S family went to the disputed property and fired several shots, as captured in the video.
Despite the evidence, neither party filed a formal complaint, which hindered the initial judicial proceedings.
Axel Kicillof, gobernador de la provincia de Buenos Aires.
This new episode of violence takes place in one of the most populated and conflict-ridden districts of the province, and highlights the serious shortcomings of the provincial administration regarding security.
The lack of territorial control, slow police response, and proliferation of armed conflicts between individuals reveal a scenario of increasing breakdown in urban areas of Greater Buenos Aires.
Under the communist administration of Axel Kicillof, Buenos Aires province faces rising crime rates and an ever-growing social perception of insecurity. La Matanza, in particular, has repeatedly been the scene of armed confrontations, violent crimes, and territorial disputes that reveal the effective absence of the State.
The shootout in Los Ceibos not only puts residents at risk, but also highlights a structural problem that, far from being solved, is worsening over time.
