The Argentine judiciary granted the benefit of house arrest to Brian Nahuel Paiz, the waiter accused of supplying drugs to Liam Payne hours before his death. The British singer died on October 16, 2024 after falling from the third floor of Hotel CasaSur Palermo, in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires, in an episode that shocked the world and initiated an extensive investigation.
The decision was issued by Chamber 3 of the National Chamber of Criminal and Correctional Cassation, composed of judges Pablo Jantus, Alberto Huarte Petite, and Gustavo Alfredo Bruzzone.

The court ordered that Paiz serve monitored house arrest with an electronic ankle bracelet. The defense had requested the benefit, arguing that their client faced health problems during his detention in a City Police holding facility. The prosecution, however, opposed the request from the outset, and the request was denied in the first instance.
Following that denial, Paiz's lawyers filed a cassation appeal. Finally, the Chamber determined that the accused has no criminal record, has a fixed address, and doesn't pose a flight risk. Even though Paiz had moved without informing the judiciary—which prompted an arrest warrant—the court decided to grant him house arrest, emphasizing that the measure is appropriate to ensure his appearance at trial.
