'El Muñeco' will coach his last match against Banfield and, while the board is looking for a new coach, Marcelo Escudero will take over on an interim basis

The decision by Marcelo Gallardo not to continue in charge of River triggered a race-against-the-clock search in Núñez. With his farewell confirmed against Banfield, the Board of Directors met to define the profile of his successor.
In that regard, the leadership has several names on the table to fill the vacancy that Muñeco will leave, and one in particular seems to be pulling ahead: Eduardo Coudet. "There is a 90% chance he will become River's next head coach", stated journalist Luciana Rubinska on her show on Infobae.
Coudet estaría muy cerca de ser el DT de River
According to various sources, in recent hours there have been informal contacts with the entourage of the current Alavés coach and the response would be positive. At the Núñez club, people believe that "Chacho", who is identified with the red sash after his spell as a player, wants to return and that this time an old desire could come true.
His contractual situation in Spain is not an insurmountable obstacle. Although he has a deal until June and at the Basque club they envisioned him in the job for a longer period, Millonario would be willing to negotiate his departure so that he can take over in the short term. It is not even ruled out that, if negotiations move quickly, he could take charge of the team after the match againstIndependiente Rivadavia in Mendoza.
River estaría dispuesto a negociar la salida de Coudet para que asuma en el corto plazo
Meanwhile, at Alavés, the issue has begun to cause a stir in the midst of the club's fight to avoid relegation in LaLiga. Now, the press conference scheduled on the eve of the clash with Levante has taken on greater significance given the possibility of an early exit.
On the other hand, on Millonario's shortlist the name of Hernán Crespo also appears, another profile that excites both executives and supporters. With a current contract at São Paulo and a solid sporting present, his departure would be more complex from an economic and political standpoint. In any case, his public desire to coach River keeps him in the running.
Crespo es otra opción fuerte en River
Further back are Santiago Solari and Pablo Aimar. Although the leadership likes him, "Indiecito" has little experience as a head coach, having served as interim coach at Real Madrid and as head coach at América de México, and today he is a trusted figure for Florentino Pérez at Casablanca in his role as director of football. Meanwhile, "Payasito" has been requested for some time by the fans and is of interest to the leadership, but his commitment to the Argentina national team would mean that, at least for now, his future lies away from the Núñez club.
Solari y Aimar son posibles candidatos, pero más están complicados
As the successor is being chosen, Marcelo Escudero will take over on an interim basisand will coach the upcoming fixtures. However, in Núñez the focus is on finalizing as soon as possible the replacement for the most successful coach in the club's history. At least for now, all eyes are on Coudet.
Coudet's numbers as a head coach
Since he first took over as a coach in 2015, Chacho has managed 459 matches, of which he has won 207, drawn 123, and lost 129. In total, he has coached seven clubs: Rosario Central, Tijuana, Racing, Inter de Porto Alegre (twice), Celta, Atlético Mineiro, and Alavés. In terms of titles, he has won three, two with Academia (2019 Superliga and 2019 Champions Trophy) and one with Galo (2023 Campeonato Mineiro).
