Zootopia 2 arrived in theaters with overwhelming strength: it grossed USD 81.1 million on its first day, with USD 39.5 million in the United States and USD 41.6 million coming from 17 international markets.
The company led by Jared Bush and Byron Howard is once again positioning itself as one of the most important engines of global animation.
The premiere quickly became one of Disney's strongest debuts in recent years, providing significant relief for the industry after releases that failed to attract audiences.
China drives the premiere with a historic record for Hollywood
The Chinese market was key: USD 34 million on its first day, the largest opening for a Hollywood animated film in China's history.

Additionally, it became the biggest opening for a North American studio in that country since 2021, a remarkable milestone in a market that, after the pandemic, had shown a strong preference for local productions.
The presence of the Zootopia theme park at Shanghai Disneyland reinforced public interest, boosting the synergy between film and immersive experiences, a strategic hallmark of Disney.
An international success setting trends in 2025
Beyond China, Zootopia 2 recorded notable openings in several countries:
- France: second-best opening of the year and third-best Disney premiere in local history.
- South Korea: first place of the day with USD 1.7 million, the best opening of the year for an American animated film.
- Germany and Italy: best 2025 openings for a studio animated film.
Projections estimate that international box office will reach between USD 135 and 145 million in its first weekend, not including Japan, which will premiere the film in December.
