The government denied rumors of negotiations with 'Fito' following his capture in Manabí.

Carolina Jaramillo reaffirmed that this is a firm action against organized crime

Executive spokesperson Carolina Jaramillo categorically rejected the rumors spread by a Colombian media outlet about an alleged negotiation with alias "Fito." During a press conference on June 30, 2025, she stated that "this Government doesn't negotiate with criminals, it pursues and captures them".

The capture of José Adolfo Macías in Manta on June 25 represented a major blow to organized crime. His transfer to Guayaquil marked the success of Operativo Centinela, which has enabled the apprehension of 9 of the 19 most wanted criminals in the country.

When questioned by the media, Jaramillo avoided elaborating on the subject, stating that it is not appropriate to waste time on unfounded rumors. She emphasized that such claims are baseless and that they have already been denied by Minister of the Interior John Reimberg as well.

The spokesperson indicated that the next step will be to finalize the extradition of alias "Fito" to the United States. Although a specific date was not provided, this action will reflect the current administration's determination to collaborate internationally against transnational crime.

The security strategy led by the current administration has restored public confidence. Through intelligence, financial analysis, and joint deployment of forces, Ecuador has begun to weaken previously untouchable criminal structures.

With operations such as Centinela and a firm message from the Executive, a change of course in public order management is evident. Transparency and decisive action make the difference compared to previous administrations that were criticized for their permissiveness.

The Government's forceful response to the rumors confirms its commitment to truth, justice, and national security. Alias "Fito" has not only been captured, but his extradition process is already underway, showing that the fight against crime in Ecuador is moving forward decisively.
