Socialist President Gustavo Petro rested in a luxurious residential complex

After Noboa's inauguration, Petro spent three days in Santa Marianita, an exclusive seaside area

The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, leader of the socialist government of the neighboring country, took advantage of his trip to Ecuador to spend a few days resting in the city of Manta, Manabí province. According to PRIMICIAS, Petro stayed in the coastal city from May 24 to 26, 2025, after attending Daniel Noboa's presidential inauguration.

Petro landed at Eloy Alfaro airport aboard the presidential plane and immediately traveled to Santa Marianita beach, a tourist destination known for its tranquility, water sports, and ocean views. He stayed in the Marina Blue development, one of the most exclusive in the area, with private beach access.

The socialist leader's stay was private and without public activities. He didn't receive visitors or make statements, remaining in a residence with direct access to the sea, a pool, and other high-end amenities. This area stands out for the value of its land, which exceeds USD 300 per square meter, and houses with prices approaching one million dollars.

The cost of this type of trip has caused questions in Colombia. Petro has been criticized for making more than 40 international trips in two years, many of them with little transparency. In 2023, he was even accused by his then foreign minister of improper behavior during official trips.

Meanwhile, Colombian citizens face urgent economic and social challenges, socialist president Petro chooses to rest in elite developments outside the country. This dissonance between political discourse and personal lifestyle has been pointed out as a deep contradiction of the progressive leadership he claims to represent.

This episode reinforces the perception that certain left-wing leaders promote equality from privileged environments, far removed from popular realities. Petro's case in Manta adds a new chapter to this regional pattern.

The brief stay of socialist president Gustavo Petro in Ecuador reveals a repeated trend among left-wing leaders: the disconnect between their egalitarian rhetoric and their personal acts of top-level, where comfort contrasts with the needs of their people.
